Bad Breath Tips - from Bite Dentistry Edinburgh

Bad breath: something none of us want! Millions of people suffer from bad breath everyday. There are some simple ways that you can eliminate your bad breath.

Watch what you eat. By eating certain foods, you can be sure you will suffer from bad breath. The most obvious foods that cause bad breath are garlic and onions. If you just do not want to give up these foods, make sure you carry sugarless gum or mints with you. Pop one in your mouth just after eating. This will help mask your bad breath. Carrying a toothbrush, and brushing your teeth after a “stinky” meal, is a great way to help rid yourself of bad breath later on.

All of us have heard that flossing our teeth is a good idea. It is true, flossing your teeth on a regular basis is a good way to fight off bad breath. Good oral health, and regular check ups with your dentist are important, not only for your over all health, but as a way to prevent oral diseases that may cause regular outbreaks of bad breath.

Changing your toothbrush every 6 months is another way to prevent bad breath. Bacteria builds up on your toothbrush, and using the same one every day is not really cleaning your teeth properly.

Mouthwash will help mask bad breath, but it is not really the best choice. Mouthwash contains alcohol, that can cause your mouth to dry out, which in turn will cause you to have bad breath.

These are easy, and inexpensive ways to help you get rid of bad breath.

Tips for avoiding bad breath...

Here are some things you can do to avoid bad breath:

* Brush your teeth after every meal. * Use mouthwash after every meal. This will help to loosen food particles inside your mouth that can decay, leading to bad breath. * If you are not home and can not brush your teeth after a meal, chew a piece of sugarless gum. This will help loosen and remove food that may be stuck in your teeth. * Use a clean, cold, wet washcloth to clean your tongue. This helps remove the bacteria on your tongue that can cause bad breath. Wipe the inside of your mouth, gums, and cheeks. * Be careful what you eat. If you eat onions or garlic, these can cause bad breath that can remain hours after you eat. * Floss after every meal. Flossing removes plaque and bacteria from building up on tooth surfaces. * See your dentist regularly. Cavities and gingivitis are 2 of the leading causes of bad breath. * Avoid strong drinks. * Stop smoking. Smoke does not only penetrate your clothes, it is a cause of bad breath. No amount of gum or mints can mask the odor of stale smoke.

Naturally your breath should have a neutral odor. It should not carry any signs of what you had for lunch today. Taking good care of your teeth and gums, is a good way to stop bad breath.
